Laslo Vastag was born in Varazdin, Croatia in 1982. At early age he started to draw and paint on walls, paper and other materials that he found. With 13 he was attracted to the comics and caricature world and soon attended a local school for drawing and painting. Later in high school (Cakovec) he focused more on drawing, digital art and painting but also experimenting with ceramics and architecture. In 2000 he graduated in Ceramic design and architecture. In 2001 he managed to go to the University of applied arts in Vienna and after 5 years he received his diploma in the painting and animation class of Christian Ludwig Attersee. Back in Varazdin, in 2008 he made a exhibition at the Municipal museum of Varazdin. Exactly a year later the same paintings where exhibited in the Ericsson ETK gallery in Zagreb.
He is mainly occupied with traditional painting in oil and acrilycs, but with heavy use of digital technology for drawing and manipulating images, sketches or stills. Occasionally he shows interests in photography, illustrations, graphic design and music.
Currently lives near Varazdin.
SHORT NOTE:
In the last couple of weeks i managed to move my painting studio and all of my stuff to another location where i will spent the next 3 months painting and making music. Im hoping the sommer and the sea (read: party and tourists) will not disturb my partly lost creative routine.
In the next year or maybe longer there will be no exhibitions due to lack of “painting-ideas” and lostness in art and creativity. In the last couple of months i was experimenting with some other techniques, technology and different models of “art production”. Basically the idea behind that process was to find and explore a bigger picture of what i feel and have in my mind, and see if the idea can be achieved in the “real world”. This process is still going on and at the state that i’m today it will last longer than i thought. The whole experience that i saw and felt in the “art-production-marketing-exhibion” world is no longer relevant to me and during this period i realized that this was not the “way to go”. Are there some other ways? Maybe, but far away from the usual tools that are here for me.
The painting page on this site is still here and it features some of my early work that where exhibited a few times.
I’m hoping that in the near future this website and my output will be expanded and that something will come out of it.
The blog page on this site was rarely updated so i decited to shut it down. For many reasons, the blog as an “news and communication’s” user experience is (in my opinion) dead. I switched completely to Twitter and Myspace (music), or some other more useful web services. The links can be found on the elsewhere page.
Thanks for reading, cheers
