Laslo Vastag was born in Varazdin, Croatia in 1982. At early age he started to draw and paint. With 13 he was attracted to the comics and caricature world and soon attended a local school for drawing and painting. Later in high school (Cakovec) he focused more on drawing, digital art and painting but also experimenting with ceramics and architecture. In 2000 he received his degree in ceramic design and architecture. In 2001 he managed to go to the University of applied arts in Vienna and after 5 years he received his diploma in the painting and animation class of Christian Ludwig Attersee. Back in Varazdin, in 2008 he made an exhibition at the Municipal museum of Varazdin. Exactly a year later the same paintings where exhibited in the Ericsson ETK gallery in Zagreb.
The painting and work process is very slow and requires a lot of time and patience. Thru the year he paints only 8-12 paintings and the solo exhibitions are rarely made. Vastag is not a member of any artistic group, collective or
cultural organization and is not represented in galleries, museums, foundations and public spaces. He sells only a few paintings, sometimes he gives them away as a gift.
He is mainly occupied with traditional painting in oil and acrilycs, but with heavy use of digital technology for drawing and manipulating images, sketches or stills. Occasionally he shows interests in photography, illustrations, graphic design and music.
Currently lives near Varazdin.
